Falkirk is roughly located halfway between Edinburgh and Glasgow, two major cities of Scotland. With the excellent transport infrastructure, access to any of these cities should be where you have the option of taking their own vehicles using the motorway network or the trouble-free rail system where the lists are almost every half hour. Falkirk, therefore, has the rigorous competition.

Since a "casual" and often reluctant shoppers, even I realized Falkirk that both downtown and central business park remain vibrant. Even the waterline and this despite the current economic recession.

Both the names of the High Street and Retail Park share the usual "High Street" that adorn every shopping area in any city in the UK. Refreshing, is a good mix of local businesses that promote their products to the public several passes.

Also, like any other people, we are "super-market ' with the usual fare of Asda, Morrison's, Tesco etc. all competing against each other and each basket promising lower prices for their opposition. However, no respite from all this, where for four days a week, Falkirk Market is held on the outskirts of the city. Here, we can buy locally and always fresh fruits origin, vegetables and meat – often at a fraction of the price of so-called supermarkets.

Completely the year, Sunday markets are French farmers and traders, literally, of France, to come through and offer a wide selection of meats, breads, cheeses and the like.

This is the "bread on the table" has ended, but the specialists? A selection of music stores, locally owned, tattoo parlors, bicycle shops (my main reason for going to town!) And many other stores too many too mention here.

General comments as a "casual" Falkirk are sinking in hair salons, nails, etc.. Everyone seems to be thriving but I can not imagine, with all the competition in the doors, how do they survive? Are they or are survivors limping through this crisis depends on your overdraft?

Another being that, as in ex-climber who still retain a healthy interest in photography and this is something that can not accommodate Falkirk. Are we all happy with the offers typical Argos, Comet etc of this world (including Falkirk!), But the equipment more specialized, such as filters, lens hoods …. and on and on! Or was the fact that the only camera store in Falkirk 2 more closed some years ago could not compete with powerful Internet and eBay? Sadly so, as we all live in the digital age … therefore, we all use digital cameras and … In digital world with the World Wide Web.

On a personal note, I still use 35mm film for "black and white" mountain photography and I left to buy my shares in the film by mail, and that is no longer available locally. My own dSLR is a bit incredible team but the fact that a 35mm SLR camera is more robust than any digital SLR, which many local professional photographers still use film cameras for the high quality – One would have thought that there would still be a demand for the store?

Will there be stores of the left in Falkirk, or even any other conurbation in the future when we all can "surf" what we buy in total virtual reality, which satisfies all the senses?
