On Photography Book
Does anyone know a decent food photography book?
Since I certainly have a passion for food, I wanted to start my own food blog…my only problem, really, is the photographs. Photography is not my strong suit, and everyone knows that the better/yummier the photos are, the more people will come back to enjoy your words. I just need a good book to reference to, so that I can get a decent idea of how to “layout” my food on the plates so that the dish is photograph-able.
I suggest you look at some of the food photography on existing blogs and websites to get an idea – there is some very good food photography on the internet. Look for a fresh perspective, and gradually your own style. Google ‘Food Blog’.. and have fun exploring.
With blogs, the photography style can also be somewhat different than in books – there can be pictures of the process, a personal glimpse of how and where the food was consumed, or just a collage of two or more pictures put together as one image (using software like Adobe Photoshop).
I suggest reading up general photography tips to help you take better pictures, such as getting good lighting right (try natural light during the day), good exposure and composition. It helps to have some knowledge of Adobe Photoshop to get your image looking better, such as a bit brighter, more vivid in colours etc.
Also, while pictures can be great to showcase a food blog, your content and personal style of writing and presenting can also be your strong points.
Don’t worry too much though, you can always team up with somebody else to take your pictures, or get better with practice, or focus on other aspects of your blog keeping your picture quality a minimum decent. Bloggers also have to build traffic or/and network to get people to come back.
I am into photography, blogging and sometimes food, so just sharing some of what I have learned:)
Good Luck!
