Photography Model Release Forms

How exactly do the model release forms of work?
Well, today I Fould that taking pictures of people who need a model Settlement, or I can be sued. So my question is: Do I need a model release form when I take pictures of people know and if that person knows I I'm taking photos of them? Because I took pictures of my friend (in this case is if you want to see it: http://www.flickr.com/photos/annafur/2283335280/) and I had no idea the release model as a whole thing because I am a child and still a little new to photography. So another question is where can I get the model release form? Thanks and sorry for asking this question always:)
If you are just taking snapshots of friends and family, no, you do not need one. If you are taking photos you want to publish, whether in print, television or the web, then yes, you do so, whether friends, family or not. Basically, the form indicates These people are giving you permission to take a picture and post it. It also indicates that you own the rights, etc, etc. You can be sued without the use of one, in case someone sees his picture in an advertisement, or decide not to like, or not to stay in the notice, and is being accused of taking the picture without his consent. For A copy of one can go to findlegalforms.com. I have to pay, but you can see without having to buy, just to get an idea of what it is.
