The guest house at the base of the Simatai section of the Great Wall of China was typically rural in its naked and unadorned atmosphere. sick I had been a dog week now and I really was expecting a nice shower. hot it was here in March and Simitai was freezing cold and I checked into windy. my room and turned on shower. I let the water run a long time, but I didnâ ™ € t seem to be getting any I have seen warmer. at the reception and the secretary sent a man to my room to see what the hot water. He told them not to worry that there would be plenty of hot water The Swell. morning. the hot shower would have to wait.

The next morning (at 4:00 am that came too soon), I turned on the water and surprise, not water. Even the cold water!  Oh well. I bundled up, grabbed my camera equipment and headed for the lobby to meet my traveling companion, Ginna Fleming, and we need our guide. start early so we could be well on the wall and instead of firing the sunrise. I've learned from years of travel, action photography assignment and there is no such thing as â € but â € early OETB € OETB € is fast beats!

It was a short walk to the Wall.E is too early for anyone to be around, just us two to our local Chinese guide. she was a villager nearby. He explained that the village was located here, but when the wells had dried up the town to move about 4 miles away, where they might find more water. She told us that village life was very difficult and guide the tourists was much easier.

We started walking up the wall, who climbed the mountainside on a fairly steep incline. upper wall was, in effect, a stone staircase and walked up the watchtower to watchtower one step at time. We got the â € € œstaircaseâ during almost two hours before the sun came up itâ € ™ s own in sky.Â

Â

We went beyond the portion of the wall and tourists to stop and warning signs that we passed ban furtherâ € | but it was early and in the winter and no one was there to stop us.Â

Here the wall had been rebuilt and was in irregular disrepair. Our guide pointed out graffiti that men and women who built the wall many years ago had left behind. The stones were loose and crumbling and had to be careful while walking to structure. When the light began to spread across the landscape we set up our tripods and framed in a distant section of the wall that extends below us like a giant serpent undulating up and down the edges brown and barren, and the hills.

For me it was one of the peaks experiences, one of the main reasons travel. The sense of history was almost palpable, the only sound the chirping of a few birds. no tourists, nobody Hawking guidebooks. Only this ancient wall, a magnificent view of the Chinese landscape and the cold wind pressure on us as the morning sun struggled mist. When its rays, finally reached the valley below us and recorded the details of the wall in itâ € ™ s warm light that he knew the photos would also be the effort. While I was there to create the adventure and stock photography, travel, I was there for the experience and spent several hours in all quiet reverence. It wasn t ™ € until we were well on our way until we got through anther person passing in silence for us in his own trip to the Great Wall.

Initiated under Qin Shi Huang around 220 BC, the first 3,000 miles of the wall required the efforts of more than 70% of chinaa € ™ s population € | more than a million peasants, prisoners and soldiers.

There are more than 10,000 watchtowers and beacon towers on the Great Wall.

There really is no â € € œsingleâ wall, but rather a series of walls, some brick and some land and built in a span of 2000 years.

The stone and bricks from the Ming Dynasty wall would be enough to go around the land of five feet tall!

Our guide told us that the wall had never stopped any incursions. The intruders, simply return to the wall or bribed the guards to let them pass.
