Photography Portraits Art

How can I begin photography (people, portraits, cosplay)?

I went to Deviant art and fell in love with pic.s!! I’m thirteen. My parents don’t want things downloaded to the computer and don’t want to spend money on it unless I’ve been with it for at least a year. Anything on the Internet would be the best. Uumm.. I’m not quite sure what to look for exactly so any help is appreciated! Thx!

Well, to begin the photography hobby, you will need a camera of some sort. You won’t have to dl anything from the interwebz, though. Just visit your local library for books on the basics. Learn a bit about some technical and artistic aspects of the craft. Study your camera manual to get the best from your gear. Take a class or join a club or group if possible to get mentoring and feedback. Look at good images in magazines and pay attention to the light and composition. Then practice.

As for not spending oodles of money, well, I do see their point. But you don’t need the most expensive camera to begin. Any decent P&S from any major camera company will be fine, Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Fuji or Sony. Many of these have models with manual settings as well as auto which would be a good thing. Perhaps you can ask for a camera for a holiday or your birthday. Visit http://www.dpreview.com/ to see different models and read reviews and specs.

Here is a good learning site for beginners:

Have fun and happy shooting!
