Turning color photo Black and white

Black and white photography has a charm all its own. The colors are great, but can create a lack of harmony of colors shock and divert the attention of shapes, textures and compositional elements in the photograph. If these are most important to you that the colors, consider the conversion Image in black and white. In the old days before digital photography had to be decided before you took the time to photo you'd like to use a color or film black and white film. Today, with a few clicks on an image editing program that can convert black and white color.

There are several ways to do it in Photoshop, this tutorial is based on – a similar effect can be achieved in most other professional programs for image editing.

Just click on "grayscale" or alternatively, adjust the color saturation to zero. A little more advanced, use the "mixer channel "and check the box labeled" monochrome ". But the most powerful way to convert your color photo to black and white is a rarely documented method Using a combination of "color balance" and "saturation". Using this method is more complicated, but it is much more powerful. You have full control over how colors are converted into black and white. Here's how:

1. The first shift in the "coat of cash '(Windows> Layers).

2. Click the small icon "adjustment layers" at the bottom and select "color balance". Click OK when the window dialog opens.

3. Click adjustment "layers" again, this time choosing color '/ saturation. The saturation immediately set 'to zero and click OK.

Your image is now black and white, but here's where it gets really good:

4. Double click on the adjustment layer you created in step 2, called "color balance".

Now you can adjust each of the 3 sliders to the left and right, which regulate how each of these colors are transformed into black and white! This has the same effect as using a color filter in front of your lens and can some colors stand out against others. Reddish skin tones, blue sky, green grass and foliage, all this and more can be selectively lightened and darkened in the black-white and delivery, giving great control over contrast and texture of the photo – much more powerful than other options grayscale to color the average license red, green and blue with the same dull gray.

But wait, there's more: 3 radio buttons little notice at the bottom saying 'shadows', "media tones "and" highlights? By default, the "halftone" is selected, but a selection of the other two only allows you to adjust more dark, or lighter shades, respectively. A good use for this is when you want to highlight some of the details hidden in the shadows of the picture. Choose 'shadows' and make sure the "preserve brightness check" in the box is not selected. Then crank up the 3 sliders for the same amount and voila, the shadow detail comes to light!

5. When you're done, select 'Layers> Flatten Image' from the main menu and save the result!
