Photography Zoom

How do I find out how much optical zoom a film camera is equal to?

If a 28mm to 112mm zoom lens in 35mm photography, In terms of a digital camera, how much optical zoom does that equal?

Some point-and-shoots have both their actual focal length AND their 35mm equivalent printed on the front of the lens. In my experience the 35mm equivalent of most point-and-shoots is somewhere around 15mm. That means the 28-112mm lens on a film camera would see the same as a point-and-shoot zoomed to 2x, all the way up to a point-and-shoot zoomed 7.5x.
