In the late 1860s in the United States, couples began hiring photographers and posing in the wedding. The art form of wedding photography was created by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce in 1826. However, the idea of live action shots and capturing the event itself emerged after the Second World War. Often, photographers quietly appeared only at a wedding, snap photos, and the company for then resell the family. This forced the studios to start covering the events, not to be expelled for freelance photographers.

Photographers can sell additional copies to the partner through a Web site with thumbnail galleries and e-commerce back-end, often in conjunction with a vendor or intermediary website that charges a commission for every purchase of printing.
